We take great pleasure in welcoming Lord and Lady Saye and Sele of Broughton Castle as patrons of UCARE.
Gerald Seymour
Gerald Seymour was educated at Kelly College, Tavistock and UC London (Modern History) was a reporter with ITN for fifteen years, and is now a novelist.
Our trustees
Our trustees founded UCARE in June 2007. They are responsible for UCARE's governance, and are involved in the charity's management and direction. The duties of a trustee.
Julian Briant, Chair
Julian, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, has spent the last 25 years in the City in banking with Robert Fleming and latterly with ING Barings. He has worked in Asia and Europe as well as the UK and has extensive experience in Corporate Finance, fund raising, and the advisory business.
Having recently left the City, he has now set up his own advisory firm. Julian is also a trustee of another charity LEPRA.
David Mortimer ACMA MIOD, Treasurer
David is a Finance Director working mainly with large organisations in the hotel and contract food services industries.
John Adams
John is a Management Consultant advising organisations on change and project development. His professional background is in the criminal justice sector and he has extensive experience of working with charities in health, housing and supporting marginalised people.
David Cranston MBChB D.Phil FRCS (Eng) FRCS (Ed)
David is a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Oxford and an Oxford University Lecturer in Surgery. His special interest is in renal cancer and transplantation and was awarded his D.Phil in 1986.
In 1992, David set up a research programme with Professor Adrian Harris, Director of the Cancer Research UK unit in Oxford, and has had 10 research fellows who have carried out outstanding work in investigating bladder and kidney cancer.
Since 2001, he has been the lead co-ordinator in a major research project on High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound as a novel way of treating cancer without surgery.
Freddie Hamdy
Professor Freddie Hamdy is the new University of Oxford, Nuffield Professor of Surgery appointed in October 2008. His main clinical interest is in the management of urological malignancies, particularly prostate and bladder cancer.

Myles Halley
Myles is a former senior partner at KPMG and UK Board member. Over 20 years as a partner he was responsible for growing their UK restructuring business. He retired in 2010 and is currently advising several businesses in a personal capacity.
Anthony Henman
Anthony was a Senior Partner of Henmans, Oxford, for 30 years. He is now a Consultant with Henmans and has an active interest in the firm's national charity department.
Anthony is also actively involved with sport. He plays international hockey for the veteran age group and is a member of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Dr James Kennedy MB BS MA DPhil MRCS
James is studying for ordination in the Church of England. Previously, he worked as a Clinical Lecturer in Urology with the University of Oxford. He was appointed to the post in 2004, at the same time becoming the inaugural "Sir Peter Morris Surgeon Scientist" within the Nuffield Department of Surgery.
His main research interest, and the subject of his DPhil thesis, was the application of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of solid malignancies.
Lynda Preston
Lynda is a teacher and she also runs a Buckinghamshire company that manufactures biological products. Her husband was successfully treated in Oxford over a ten-year period for prostate cancer.
Dr Andrew Protheroe MB BS FRCP PhD
Andrew has been a Consultant Medical Oncologist in Oxford since 2001, with a speciality of Uro-oncology appointed for clinical research. He is a member of the NCRI clinical studies group for bladder and renal cancer. Trained in oncology at Leeds with research training in Leeds and Amsterdam, he was awarded a PhD in 2000.

Our volunteers
UCARE receives invaluable support from clinicians, patients and their families and friends, and community groups. They support us by:
- sharing their expertise to run and develop UCARE;
- organising fundraising events;
- working with trustees to ensure that we fulfil our aims;
- promoting UCARE to others.

Clive Stone, Community Volunteer
Clive, who is a patient himself, is helping with our community fundraising activities. He has a background in banking and was previously a volunteer with the local branch of the Alzheimer's Society. Clive also chairs FROG, Friends of Renal Oncology Group, the Oxfordshire support group for people with kidney cancer.
Our staff
Val Berry, Development Officer
Val is responsible for assisting the Trustees and developing UCARE. Val is an ex-nurse with many years experience in research administration. She is also responsible for the finances, the administration of our projects and for fundraising and charity events
Michael Heal
Michael is UCARE's fundraising consultant and is developing our links with the business community and other organisations. As a PR and Marketing consultant he is also using his experience to create greater awareness of UCARE on both a local and national level.
Our advisors
UCARE's Scientific Advisory Committee is made up of clinicians and researchers. They advise our trustees to ensure UCARE supports projects that meet the charity's aims and are of the highest standard.
